Meet Amin: A Rohingya Refugee, scrap metal collector. Some may call him “poor”, but he is rich in integrity and honesty which is a rare find today. I’ve only been able to post this now as my screen was damaged when my phone and wallet flew off the top of Elaine’s car, when I carelessly put it there while taking Mia’s baby chair out. By the grace of God and what can only be a miracle, Amin somehow with a blacked out screen on my phone, called Elaine and let her know he had found my wallet and phone strewn across the Kerinchi link highway while he was looking for scrap metal. It’s times like these that you realize that we are quick to dismiss people as “poor” and we are so focused on our own lives that we forget that there are people like Amin our there. Poor but honest people who don’t let their financial and personal tragedies change their principles. It also is a sign to me that I need to carry on with the work we started to link recycling with access to healthcare insurance for Rohingya refugees in Malaysia. It’s a sign, and I have taken notice. Tuáñre cúkuria Amin, your’e an angel.
